So I know it’s no longer February, and it’s pretty much the middle of March. BUT, I like to buy items and try them out for a while before telling you what I think. I feel like I always instantly like or dislike something, but you never know how it really works till after you’ve used it a few weeks or tried it out a lot. So I’m sitting on my bed, listening to Eric Church, and writing this for y’all. First thing, what did people do before laptops?! Secondly, Eric and makeup don’t exactly go hand in hand. But, it works for me, so it could work for you!
So here’s what all I got…
1. Not Your Mother’s Just Give Me Some Volume Volumizing Hair Powder
2. L’Oreal Ever Pure Repair Remedy Mask
3. Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer in You Took My Love
4. It Brushes for Ulta Airbrush line (Powder Wand No. 108, Radiance Fan No. 116, and Blurring Concealer No. 103)
I have bought several volumizing hair powders over the years, one was really expensive and it worked and the other was even more expensive and didn’t do crap for my hair. This one is really cheap, it’s $5.99 at Ulta AND they currently have buy 1 get 1 50% off online! (This sale is probably in stores too!) I will say the one thing I HATE about hair powders are how they make your hair feel. But, this is how they all work. However, I accidentally dumped about 1/3 of this bottle into my hair last night (my fault) and my hair feels GROSS! Soooooo I wouldn’t recommend to any of y’all to do that! My fairly clean hair is going to have to be washed again and I’ve started dreading washing my hair!
Online it says, “This powerful powder is the fastest way to maximize volume and add texture directly to dry hair. Say buh-bye to your ho-hum hair because this salon formula will have you and your hair large and in charge!” It definitely can get it large and in charge! Maybe sometimes a little too large and a little too in charge. But, if this is a great expensive way to try a hair powder out! I would definitely recommended this! I got mine at Ulta, but I know they have it at Target, Wal-Mart, and Amazon.
I’ve been wanting to try a hair mask for a while and I was looking at the higher end ones and I just wasn’t ready to fork out the $20 plus dollars for one. So if you have one between $10-$20 that you love, let me know!
Online it says, ” EverPure Repair & Defend is our first sulfate-free color-care system for damaged, color-treated hair. Infused with Acai, Goji and a UV Filter, the Antioxidant Complex repairs and strengthens hair while helping keep color pure. Remedy Mask is a restorative hair mask treatment for highly damaged, weakened hair. Our exclusive formula with Antioxidant Complex deeply penetrates to help repair, strengthen and polish every strand.”
I don’t tend to dye my hair often, but I did recently dye it a shiny black. (I occasionally want to look like a Salem witch.) But, it is more of a natural black currently (or blue and purple according to a 7 year old in my life…) So I thought a mask would help keep the dye from damaging my hair. I tend to have really healthy hair, but it’s started breaking on one side recently.
I like this product, but I don’t love it. It does make my hair feel super soft (like baby hair!,) but it also makes my hair greasy. I learned the hard way, the first time, that I used way too much and you could have fired some chicken on my hair in a day or two! I read online that a lot of people use it several times a week and I definitely can’t do that, I don’t know how they do! I use it now maybe once a week to every week and a half and that seems to be a good fit for me. It’s not too much and no chicken grease hair anymore. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this. BUT, if you are dying to try it, I got it at Ulta for $8.99. I know they have this on Amazon and I’m sure they have it at Target and Wal-Mart as well.
So let me start with how I got this product, I went into our crappy ass tiny Sephora in JCPenney’s and I wanted this color by Tarte.
And the lady kept trying to sell me and convince me that this was the same color.
Clearly, they are not the same! So I was aggravated and left. A few days later I went to our local Ulta and they were out of the Tarte color I wanted, but they had the tester.
The Tarte colors are the ones smeared all on the right side of my hand. BUT, the one on the left bottom is the Makeup Revolution. Makeup Revolution is a pretty new (or at least new to me brand.) I don’t know the quality of all their products, but this lip product has some damn good staying power! However, it is hard to apply evenly and it eventually cracks and crumbles. Granted it was ONLY $5… I wanted a bold, pink lip and that’s what I got. I think if I was to test out another one, I would get a more neutral color. (Granted, I just went and looked and they don’t really have a neutral color! They have a peach, hot pink, red, lavender, dark berry, and chocolate color.) So never mind with that…
Online it says,
- Goes on as a liquid and dries matte
- Touch proof and long-wearing
- Intense color
It definitely dries matte! It’s definitely touch proof and lasts forever! (It just doesn’t hold up the best.) And the color is bold! So they weren’t lying at all. I however, wouldn’t really recommend this. If you want to play around with some colors, sure, but this wouldn’t be my go to for a matte liquid lip.
I have become kind of obsessive with these brushes and about 75% of the brushes I use daily are from this line. (Thanks Kim for making me feel yours! It’s got me hooked!)
They have 3 lines:
• Airbrush finish, synthetic, cruelty-free, anti-microbial hair
• Lightweight, durable, makeup bag friendly design
• Rounded comfort handle makes it easy to grip
Live Beauty Fully –
• Award-winning, IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe® ultra soft, synthetic hair
• Silver streamlined handle is weighted for controlled application
• Each artisan-crafted brush is designed to feel like a work of art.
Velvet Luxe –
• Ultra-dense, micro-fine, cruelty-free, anti-microbial optical blurring hair
• Custom-molded, soft-touch grip for maximum control
• Ergonomic handle designed for ultimate comfort application
Airbrush is the least expensive if the 3 lines, but I wouldn’t say they are the cheap. I have been impressed with the quality and how these brushes work! I would highly recommend them. I believe I own 7 now and it’s been a gradual build. This is the only time I’ve bought 3 at once, I usually buy them one at a time. (I wish I could just buy them all at once, but my bank account just won’t let me!)
I’ll start with the brush on the left in the above picture.
Blurring Concealer No. 103 – Let me be honest and say I’ve never used this brush for concealer. I actually bought this brush because they don’t have a setting brush in their line and I wanted something to set my under eye powder with. I figured if I didn’t like it for setting the under eye, I would use it for concealer. BUT, I have love it so much for setting the powder under my eye that I haven’t even tried it for anything else.
Online it says, “Fluffy rounded tip ideal for covering small hard to reach areas like inner eye corners and around nose. Use with your favorite liquid or cream concealer. Smooth, soft bristles are designed for the delicate under eye skin area and conceal on skin imperfections. Dense, rounded tip easily reaches small areas, as well as large areas. Deposits the perfect amount of product, even those that are highly pigmented!” So I think they just convinced me to actually try this with concealer tomorrow!
This brush will cost you $16 at Ulta. I use to cringe at brush prices, but they are an investment! Take care of them and they will last for forever! I use the It Brush Bath in between the hardcore Purity bath they get every few weeks.
Radiance Fan No. 116 – I remember that I got some cheap mega brush set a few years ago and in it I got a large and small fan brush, except I didn’t even know what to do with them. I remember asking Chrissy, her explaining them, and me thinking that was stupid. Fast forward a few years, and I’m kind of obsessed with highlighters, so a fan brush is your new best friend! I lost the big fan brush I had (Actually, I think one of my cats stole it.) and the small fan brush just sucked. So I invested in this bad boy and haven’t looked back. I like my eyes to glitter, I like my cheeks to put a circus clown to shame, and I like my highlighter to look like a strobe light. (I think I missed my calling for drag…) Anyway, this brush will make your highlight on fleek and I highly recommend it!!!
Online it says, “Airy fluffy fan brush head dusts and sets powder without taking off makeup underneath! Use with your favorite highlighter, bronzer and blush. Airy brush head dusts and sets powder without taking off makeup underneath! Perfect also for removing eye shadow fallout and great for applying highlighter precisely.”
You can get this bad boy only at Ulta and it will cost you $18.
Powder Wand No. 108 – This is the one brush I’m probably meh about. Does it do it’s job, yes. Is it soft, yes. Is it amazing, no. Does it suck, no. I don’t think this brush is amazing by any means. I use it everyday and I like it, but I don’t love it. I think I would probably invest in their larger powder brushes. However, I think this brush would make a great bronzer brush!
Online it says, “Large fluffy rounded head is great for distributing powder across the entire face and décolleté. Use with your favorite loose and pressed powders. Designed to grab the perfect amount of any powder, it’s the magic behind the ultimate soft-focused complexion.” I would disagree with the designed to grab the perfect amount of any powder statement, because sometimes I really have to dig in to get powder on my brush.
It’s a good brush, but it isn’t great. If you want to check it out or purchase it, it’s only available at Ulta and will cost you $26.
Sorry this was so long guys! I should definitely have another blog post later this week, and I’m serious about it this time. I hope you all are having a great week and remember to keep those in Louisiana in your thoughts and prayers. The flooding is so damn heartbreaking and there could be more in the near future.
Like always, let me know what you think below in the comments or email me. I would love to know some of you favorite hair masks, powder brushes, and liquid lipsticks!
